So by now you've probably seen the comment redesign. If you haven't, go look. I'll wait.

Okay, so. Since it went live, I cannot comment. The 'post new comment' button literally does nothing when I click it. As does the icon selection button, which I hear is a disaster anyway.

Without comments, I don't see how I can possibly RP. So I'm on unwilling hiatus until this gets fixed. I'm hoping that happens quickly. If it doesn't...I don't know what I'll do. Cry a lot, probably.

I love all y'all. Here's hoping it at least lets me post this...

EDIT: Just so everyone knows, this workaround does work. Obviously it's not ideal, but it works and I can comment again.

Not an ideal solution, but it might work until LJ fixes this: First, go into Profile, go to settings, go to Display, and click the box next to 'View all journals and communities in my own style'. Then go into your journal style, customize your theme. Go down to 'Disable customized comment pages for your journal' and set it to no.

Now... it'll put all comment pages in the same style as your journal. It's not ideal, but it gets rid of these new 'improvements'. That might get it so you can comment again.

Just found this on one of the Russian update bits:

Open Social is a programming API (by Google) for making site widgets. It's not necessarily a bad thing; the Google widgets that people use in GMail are OpenSocial. Not that I have any doubt that LJ will find a frustrating and stupid way to implement them, eventually.

This blows hard; glad switching to custom pages worked to at least give you some function back.

Hopefully we'll also be able to help by getting the FH comms switched over to a style that has at least bearable comment pages; we're working on that as well as an OOC post, but 3/4 of the admin creatures aren't awake and even those who are may or may not be wearing pants yet. ;-)

Oh, yeah, that's another thing, in the new icon menu disaster thing, if you select an icon with more than one set of keywords it reverts you back to the default icon. And a lot of other bugginess besides.

I was unaware that pants were necessary for admin work!

I still haven't slept--first I panicked, and then I was mad, and then upset, and then I was scrambling around trying to fix things, and then it was just lol it's 5 AM why even bother. Anyway, I've been reading a lot of things on the lj-release post and it sounds like even in the styles with subject headings--like this one--they're treated as bold text in the comment, not a true subject heading. I haven't really tested it yet. So you just get a blank reply subject in your inbox, which is going to make comment notifications a true joy.

I hate everything right now, really.

YUP. She said, having just tested it. They all come through as "reply to your comment."

Also icons that you cannot actually *use* because your paid account has expired will show up in the icon-browser, but go to the default instead once you've posted.

Also you will note that in the new style 'parent' and 'thread' are gone, making threads impossible to navigate. And expand seems to be broken but that could just be because expand goes buggy every update. No one's sure yet.

FWIW, Expand (when working) gets you the Thread link. Parent is just gone, period. Expand will actually expand if you just click it, will get you the thread if you right-click + open in new tab, and if you right-click and copy it, that link will work for linkdrops, radio, etc.

Also, searching for icons is CASE-SENSITIVE so if you're like me and you capitalize everything, just doing a letter search for the icon you're using will result in EVERY ICON BUT THE ONE YOU'RE SEARCHING FOR.

Yeah, I've taken to just omitting the first letter of the icons with names that I remember. Which is completely ridiculous, I don't know why they thought this was a good idea, but.
